The newsletter by Jake Dunn

Sell what you make.

It's called Timeless/ly Tuesday. Every Tuesday morning you get one letter with two parts: a timeless idea about creativity or business, and a timely tactic I'm testing right now at Milan Art, in Dimitra's art business or in Creative Company itself.

What you'll get every Tuesday

  1. 01

    One timeless idea.

A principle about creativity or business that'll still be true in fifty years, the kind I keep coming back to on my coaching calls with working artists.

  2. 02

    One timely tactic.

Something I'm testing right now at Milan Art, in Dimitra's art business or in Creative Company itself, so you can watch while I try it (including the ones that flop).

Fair warning: this is the business side of a creative life, so there's very little painting technique in it.

Borrow what's working at Milan Art

Hey, I'm Jake. I'm co-owner of Milan Art Institute, and I've led its marketing and sales since October 2022. In that time our team has brought in more than $28 million in sales (they make me look very good).

I'm also a music producer on a long break, Dimitra Milan's husband, and dad to Zion and Valor. Dimitra is an artist with her own art business, so I get to watch two very different creative companies up close: Milan Art, with a whole team behind it, and hers. Creative Company is the third one, and I'm building it in public.

What we learn there, you get to borrow for your own creative company.

Your first letter: the laptop that got stolen in Rome

In October 2024, thieves broke into our rental van in Rome and drove off with my laptop. All of my music was on it.

The first letter you'll get is the whole story: the broken glass in the parking lot, a taxi ride to go find our stuff, and a lesson that cost me a lot more than a laptop. Actually three of them: back up your files, listen to the person with the bad feeling, and share what you make, because that's the one backup no thief can drive off with.

Start with the Rome story

Join Creative Company and the laptop story is the first letter you'll get. After that, one more every Tuesday morning.
